The Robot Revolution Continues: Atomic Heart 2 Goes Full Franchise Mode at Summer Game Fest

Well, Mundfish wasn’t kidding around when they said they had big plans for their retrofuturistic nightmare world. Today at Summer Game Fest, they didn’t just announce Atomic Heart 2, they revealed an entire “Atomic Universe” that’s expanding this wonderfully weird franchise in ways I never expected.

The sequel itself looks absolutely bonkers in the best possible way. We’re getting enhanced combat and expanded RPG elements, and Mundfish promises a living world with activities that go way beyond the original’s scope. The tagline “The truth runs deeper than you think” suggests we’re diving even deeper into the conspiracy that made the first game so compelling.

But here’s where it gets exciting: they also announced The Cube, an MMO spin-off set several years after the original game. An Atomic Heart MMO? That will either be absolutely brilliant or completely chaotic, and honestly, I’m here for either outcome.

Both games are targeting 2026, which gives Mundfish plenty of time to polish what already looks like an ambitious expansion of their universe. After the original game’s wild ride through Soviet-era robotics gone wrong, seeing this franchise grow into something bigger feels like the natural next step. Sometimes the weirdest games make the best franchises.
