If you’ve played through “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” and watched the credits, you might have been surprised by the Death Stranding 2 Nintendo credit. It’s an unusual sight in a PlayStation 5 exclusive, but there’s a simple explanation for why Nintendo is in Death Stranding 2.
The company credited is Nintendo Pictures, a subsidiary of Nintendo that specializes in motion capture and CG animation. This studio helped bring the world of Death Stranding 2 to life.
But why would a Nintendo-owned company work on a game for its biggest competitor? The answer lies in the studio’s history. Before being acquired by Nintendo in 2022, Nintendo Pictures was an independent studio called Dynamo Pictures.
Dynamo Pictures had a long history of working on various games, including the original “Death Stranding.” It is very likely that Kojima Productions had already signed a contract with Dynamo Pictures to work on the sequel before Nintendo purchased the studio.
So, even though the studio is now part of Nintendo, it seems they honored their existing contract to complete the motion capture work for “Death Stranding 2.” This is the first time Nintendo Pictures has been credited on a non-Nintendo game since the acquisition, making it a unique and interesting piece of gaming trivia.
