BepInEx Guide: How to Install Mods for My Winter Car

My Winter Car launched into Early Access on Dec 29, 2025. Ever since its release, players have been messing around with mods, which is pretty awesome. However, if you’ve been trying to mod the game, you might’ve realized that the old My Summer Car loader (MSCLoader) does not work for My Winter Car because it’s not compatible.

The best way to run mods right now is to use BepInEx. Here’s how you can do it in no time.

Step 1: Download BepInEx

First, you need the BepInEx tool that allows the game to read custom code.

1. Go to the BepInEx GitHub releases page.
2. Scroll down to the Assets section.
3. IMPORTANT: Download the file ending in x64 (e.g., BepInEx_x64_5.4.23.4.zip).
   • Note: Do not download the x86 version. It will not work.

Step 2: Install BepInEx

1. Open Steam.
2. Right-click My Winter Car in your library.
3. Go to Manage > Browse Local Files. This opens your game folder.
4. Open the zip file you just downloaded.
5. Drag and drop all files from the zip directly into the main game folder.

Step 3: Run the Game Once

Before you install any specific mods, you need to initialize the loader.

1. Launch My Winter Car.
2. Wait until you reach the Main Menu.
3. Close the game.
4. Go back to your game folder. You should now see a new folder named BepInEx. Inside that, there is a folder called plugins.

Step 4: Install My Winter Car Mods

Now you are ready to add content.

1. Download a mod (usually a .dll file) from NexusMods or the community Discord.
2. Open the BepInEx folder, then open the plugins folder.
3. Drag the mod’s .dll file into the plugins folder.
4. Launch the game. Your mod is now active. Simple as that.

Troubleshooting

Game Won’t Start/Crashes on Launch

• Wrong Version: You likely downloaded the x86 (32-bit) version of BepInEx. Delete the files and download the x64 version.
• Steam Deck/Linux Users: You need to force the game to use the DLL.
  1. Right-click the game in Steam > Properties.
  2. In Launch Options, paste this code exactly: WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”winhttp=n,b” %command%

Can I use My Summer Car mods?

• No. Mods made for My Summer Car are not compatible. Using them will break your save file. Only use mods specifically tagged for My Winter Car.

Where is the Mod Menu?

• Most BepInEx mods use F1 or F5 to open their settings menu while in-game.
