Outer Worlds 2 Is Coming: Be Ready for a Space Saga!

Outer Worlds 2: A Journey Into Space

Today (October 29), Obsidian will officially release the Outer Worlds 2 and we can finally experience space and its stories through the eye of an Earth Directorate agent.

The Outer Worlds 2 takes place in an “isolated colony” called Arcadia, which is under the strict control of the Protectorate, an authoritarian faction. This faction’s dictatorship, as detailed in the game’s Direct presentation, explores the central theme of “how much freedom people give up for security and luxury”. The Protectorate, which is also extremely wealthy, was established by the original inventor of the skip drives.

You, as an Earth Directorate agent, have been dispatched to investigate these skip drives. They are rapidly creating dangerous rifts by damaging the fabric of space-time. Interestingly, while the need to close these rifts is universal, every separate faction has its own agenda for doing so.

Outer Worlds 2 platforms

Although earlier reports claim that The Outer Worlds 2 would be an Xbox Series X exclusive, Obsidian initial comprehensive look at the upcoming RPG, presented in December 2024, confirmed game platforms include PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.

Outer Worlds 2 Gameplay

The Outer Worlds 2 shifts its character progression focus to Skills over Stats, featuring 12 total skills, including Engineering and Hacking. Traits are also present, applying permanent effects to your character that can be either beneficial or negative.

The game maintains the structure of the first, requiring certain skills and traits to pass speech checks during conversations. Situational depth is confirmed by the inclusion of a quest device, the N-Ray scanning device, which enables players to see enemies through walls.

The systems of Perks (with over 90 different ones revealed) and dynamic Flaws are returning. Character respacing will not be possible because this decision makes player choices permanent and forces them to double down on their build.

On the other hand, flaws are more responsive to gameplay. For example, players who skip dialogue often may get a penalty inducing time limit for conversations while the Bad Knees Flaw grants faster movement but risks breaking stealth cover due to creaking joints.
