Your 4 Step Platinum Roadmap

Step 1 – Hardcore Campaign & Collectible Run: Start your first playthrough on Hardcore difficulty. The difficulty trophies stack, so this will knock out Casual and Normal at the same time. While you’re at it, grab all 33 COG Tags to get that out of the way.

Step 2 – Insane Co op Conquest: Grab a friend and tackle the campaign on Insane. The AI companions are pretty useless on this difficulty, so a human partner is almost essential. This is where you’ll earn the “Commando” trophy and the very challenging “Brothers To The End.”

Step 3 – The Versus Multiplayer Gauntlet: Settle in, because this is the long haul. The focus here is the infamous “Seriously…” trophy, which requires 10,000 kills in public Versus matches. You’ll knock out nearly all other online trophies on your way to this one.

Step 4 – Final Cleanup: After the multiplayer grind is over, double check your trophy list. If you missed any miscellaneous campaign trophies, use chapter select to quickly mop them up.

Campaign Operations: Two Playthroughs to Glory

The campaign trophies are mostly about efficiency. Your first goal is to complete the story on Hardcore. This difficulty is challenging enough to teach you the ropes, enemy patterns, weapon effectiveness, and level layouts, which will prepare you for the Insane run. For a detailed chapter by chapter guide, you can check out this complete Gears of War Reloaded walkthrough. During this playthrough, keep an eye out for the red Crimson Omen skull painted on walls; it’s a dead giveaway that one of the 33 COG Tags is nearby. Finding them all will net you the gold “For the Fallen” trophy.

Once Hardcore is done, it’s time for Insane. This mode is no joke. Enemies hit like a truck, and you’ll go down in just a few shots. Playing with a co op partner makes it much more manageable. Your main target here is defeating the final boss, General RAAM, without either of you getting downed to unlock “Brothers To The End.” The key is to use the Torque Bow to knock off his Kryll shield, then hit him with everything you’ve got, perfectly reloaded Longshot headshots and a storm of frag grenades. If anyone goes down, just reload the checkpoint and try again.

There are a couple of other combat trophies you can farm easily. For “Clusterluck” (kill 3 enemies at once 10 times), just load up Act 1, Chapter: Trial By Fire, and throw a grenade into the first Emergence Hole you see. Reload the checkpoint and repeat. For “Whack A Grub,” head to Act 1, Chapter: Fish in a Barrel, and toss grenades into the four e-holes around the fountain before any Locust can fully climb out.

The Multiplayer Grind: Welcome to the Grind

Alright, let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the “Seriously…” trophy. Getting 10,000 kills in public Versus is the single biggest grind for this Platinum. The best way to rack up kills is by playing objective modes like King of the Hill or Blitz. These modes funnel everyone into one area, leading to constant action and more opportunities for kills.

To succeed, you have to master the Gnasher shotgun. It has been the heart of Gears multiplayer since day one. Practice your movement, learn how to wall bounce to close the gap on enemies, and get a feel for the Gnasher’s sweet spot range. While you’re grinding for kills, you’ll naturally make progress on almost every other multiplayer trophy. You’ll hit level 100 for the “Re-up” trophy long before you hit 10,000 kills, so don’t even worry about farming XP.

Two other important multiplayer trophies are “Mix It Up” and “Around the World.” For “Mix It Up,” you need to win a match in every game type category. The developers have made sure all modes are available, so this shouldn’t be an issue. For “Around the World,” you need a win on all 20 multiplayer maps. The game doesn’t track this for you, so it’s a good idea to keep your own checklist to make sure you don’t miss any.

That’s the plan, soldier. It’s a long road, but with a clear strategy, that Platinum trophy is well within your reach. Now get out there and start chainsawing some grubs.
