Best Builds in SWORN

If you’ve hit the wall in Act 3 or are getting crushed on Sovereign difficulty, stop trying to win with just skill. SWORN isn’t fair, so your build shouldn’t be either.

Most players fail because they build for pure damage and get chipped to death by environmental hazards or swarms of enemies. The builds below focus on broken mechanics (specifically Shatter and Turret spam) that let you slice through the hardest parts of the game.

Here is the quick breakdown of the best builds in SWORN.

Why Most Builds Fail in Act 3 and Sovereign

Most players hit a wall because they chase big DPS numbers. In the late game, defense and stagger matter more than raw damage.

Late-game enemies hit much harder. You cannot rely on trading hits. Pure damage builds often fail because they don’t stop the enemy from attacking.

The builds that dominate Sovereign (like Freeze, Stagger, and Spirit) work because they control the fight. Freeze prevents movement. Stagger prevents attacks. If you can stop an enemy from attacking, you win. If you just try to race their HP bar, you usually lose.

“AFK” Monk Build (Perma-Freeze & Shatter)

This is the easiest way to clear your first run. It works because you don’t actually have to fight. You just place objects that fight for you.

The core of this setup is the Monk using Chimes. Your goal is to unlock the Crystal Turret ability immediately. Once you have it, the game plays itself. You drop turrets, dash away, and let them whittle down bosses while you focus entirely on dodging.

sworn monk

For blessings, you specifically need Beira (Ice) to apply chill. Her chill effects slow enemies down, keeping them inside your turret range longer. If you can find the Dual Core augment, it doubles your turret count.

This build is perfect for Sovereign difficulty because it removes the risk of trading hits. You aren’t the damage dealer anymore. You are just the manager.

To unlock the Monk, you need to clear 15 chambers with the Vigilante in a single run and spend 20x Fairy Embers for him.

Monk Freeze Shatter (The “Broken” Mechanic)

This is the safest and most reliable build in the game. It works by abusing the Shatter mechanic. You will see “Shatter” mentioned by almost every pro player. Most people get it wrong. Shatter isn’t just “explosive ice.” It is a specific Duo ability that requires two things: Frozen and Stagger.

To get this consistently, put Beira (Ice) on your main attack or dash to apply Freeze. Then, put Gogmagog (Stagger) on your Companion slot.

When you summon your companion, they apply Stagger. You apply Freeze with your attacks. When both statuses hit an enemy, they trigger Shatter. This deals massive burst damage and, more importantly, stuns the enemy.

This is the “cheat code” for bosses like Arthur. If you can keep Shatter on, he literally cannot attack you.

Rook Halberd Build (One-Shot Ignite)

If you prefer seeing big numbers, this build is for you. Rook’s Halberd has a massive hit box, and we abuse it with Gogmagog (Stagger) on the Attack slot.

The standard setup uses Gogmagog to stun enemies. But the high-damage variant swaps Gogmagog for Titania (Ignite) on your Heavy Attack. When you combine the raw damage of the Halberd with Ignite’s percentage burn, you can see crits hitting for over 10,000 damage (and potentially up to 700k+ in ideal runs) in Zone 3.

This build is riskier than the Monk. You have to commit to long animations. You need to time your Heavy Attacks perfectly. If you miss, you take damage. But if you hit, the room is empty.

sworn gameplay

For farming, look for the Bone Collector blessing from Badb. This item gives you permanent damage for every enemy you kill (up to 100% bonus). The trick is to find rooms with “rats” or “worms” that spawn infinitely. Don’t kill the spawner immediately. Just stand there and farm the small mobs until you hit the damage cap. This can double your DPS for the final boss.

ComponentRequirementPurpose
WeaponHalberdHeavy attack base damage
SpellCounterDefensive utility during charge
Primary BlessingGogmagog (Heavy Attack)Core damage multiplier
Secondary BlessingAny Badb BlessingUnlock Bone Collector duo
Duo BlessingBone Collector+1% damage per enemy killed

Vigilante Backstab Build (High Skill / Crit)

Vigilante is great for players who like high Actions Per Minute (APM). Use Chakrams with Shadow Strike. The strategy is to dash through enemies to get behind them, then unload backstab crits. It’s fast and fun, but one mistake usually means death.

ComponentRequirementPurpose
Primary WeaponChakramsReturn-path damage potential
SpellShadow StrikeInstant backstab positioning
Core BlessingBadb (any)Backstab mechanics
Key BlessingDeadly PrecisionFlank attacks count as backstabs
Duo OptionOberon + BadbChanneled Darkness (Fury backstabs)
Critical AugmentSpare BladeAdds third chakram
Critical AugmentStreamlineImproved throw mechanics

You want Badb blessings to maximize backstab damage. Unlock the Rebound Blades passive for Chakrams to get a 50% damage boost when the blades return to you.

Spectre Spirit Tank Build (Survival)

Spectre is the “Hades-like” option. If you miss the shield-bashing playstyle of other roguelikes, pick Spectre with Spirit Guardians. You basically turn yourself into a walking hitbox. Add Oberon for extra AoE damage and just run into people. It works well for speedrunning lower difficulties but falls off on Sovereign because you can’t tank the massive damage hits.

ComponentRequirementPurpose
Primary SpellSpirit GuardiansAutonomous damage source
WeaponArmillary SphereFast ranged support attacks
Blessing Option 1Oberon (any)Fury/Flow synergy with guardians
Blessing Option 2Beira (any)Chill effects on guardian strikes
Key AugmentGuardian PermanenceMakes guardians last indefinitely

Best Fae Lords and Duo Blessings Ranked

Choosing the right Fae Lord is just as important as your weapon. Here is how they rank for the current meta.

Strongest Fae Lords:

  • Titania (S-Tier): Best Ignite scaling.
  • Beira (S-Tier): Best Freeze scaling.
  • Gogmagog (A-Tier): Best stagger scaling.

Top Duo Blessings: The strongest power spikes in the game come from Duo blessings that combine these effects. Look specifically for Duos that combine Freeze and Stagger (for Shatter) or Ignite and Heavy Attack scaling (for Boss melting)

Best Source Skill Tree Setup for Each Build Type

Your skill tree choices should support your specific damage type. Don’t just pick generic nodes.

  • For Halberd Builds: Max out Heavy Attack Bonuses. You want anything that increases raw damage per hit or stagger impact.
  • For Freeze Builds: Focus on Chill and Freeze Scaling. Duration is often better than damage here, as it keeps enemies locked down longer.
  • For Spectre Builds: You must take Fury Scaling nodes. Without them, your Spirit uptime will be too low to sustain DPS.
  • For Crit Builds: Prioritize Crit bonuses. Ignore base damage nodes if you have to choose; the multipliers are worth more.

Known Bugs & Glitches (Avoid These)

The game is still a bit buggy. Avoid these specific interactions to save your run:

Bedavir’s Ball Attack: This move is currently glitchy. Sometimes the ball gets stuck in geometry or simply fails to deal damage or spawn at all. Avoid picking this blessing for now.

Heavy Attack Seals: On the Switch version specifically, Heavy Attack seals sometimes fail to trigger properly if you dash immediately after attacking. Let the animation finish before you move to ensure the attack registers.

SWORN Character Tier List

S-Tier: Monk & Rook Monk is the safest character in the game. Rook is the fastest boss killer. These two are the only real options for consistent Sovereign wins.+1

A-Tier: Vigilante High damage potential, but requires too much effort. You have to play perfectly to get the same results a Monk gets by standing still.

B-Tier: Spectre Fun, but weak defensively. On high difficulties, the “tank” playstyle doesn’t work because enemies hit too hard. You will die before they do.
