Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk Katana Build

I’ve spent a lot of time in Night City, and while there’s no shortage of high tech firepower, I’ve gotta be honest, guns are messy. For me, ripping through a squad of Arasaka goons with nothing but a razor sharp piece of steel isn’t just messy, it’s art. This is the path of the Street Samurai, and it’s all built around what I think is the most stylish and devastating playstyle in the game: the Cyberpunk Katana Build.

I’d tell you to forget cover based shooting; this is about speed, precision, and that pure, visceral thrill you only get from melee. With the 2.3 update and Phantom Liberty re-tuning combat, I truly believe there has never been a better time to become the cyberninja of your dreams.

In this guide, I’m going to break down everything I’ve learned, from the chrome under your skin to the perks in your skill tree, to help you transform V from a simple merc into a bladed whirlwind of death.

Before we dive deep, here’s a quick glance table I put together of the best katana build paths you can take, depending on your preferred playstyle.

Cyberpunk Katana Build 2025 Guide

So, what’s the philosophy behind a top tier Cyberpunk Katana Build? It’s all about controlled aggression. This is not a “run in and swing wildly” build. It’s a high mobility, high risk, and extremely high reward playstyle that relies on three things: closing the distance, controlling the fight, and getting out clean.

Your core combat loop will look something like this: use your mobility perks like Dash and Air Dash to instantly close the gap to a group of enemies. Just as they’re raising their guns, you activate your Operating System, either slowing time to a crawl with a Sandevistan or popping Berserk to become invincible. You’ll slice through the first few targets, using the Finisher: Bladerunner perk on a weakened enemy to restore a chunk of health and stamina. By the time your OS runs out, the entire squad is in pieces on the floor.

Cyberpunk Katana Build 2025 Guide

This build’s greatest strength is its ability to absolutely neutralize groups of enemies. You are, by far, the most dangerous thing on the battlefield. Its primary weakness, however, is your vulnerability to enemies you can’t reach. Snipers perched on a distant rooftop or a powerful netrunner can be a serious problem if you don’t spot them first. Your goal is to identify those threats, close the distance, and end them before they even know you’re there.

Cyberpunk Katana Build Cyberware

For a melee focused V, your cyberware isn’t just a set of stats; it is your armor, your weapon, and your lifeline all in one. “Chrome” is everything. Your entire build will be defined by the choices you make at the Ripperdoc. The main goal is to stack bonuses that increase your speed, attack damage, survivability, and most importantly, reduce your cooldowns.

The biggest choice you’ll make is your Operating System. This single piece of chrome will define your entire playstyle. You have two main paths.

First is the classic “cyberninja” path: the Sandevistan. This OS allows you to slow time, making you move like lightning while your enemies are stuck in molasses. This is the ultimate offensive tool, letting you line up perfect head decapitating strikes and dodge bullets with ease. The best options are the Militech “Apogee” Sandevistan or the Militech “Falcon” Sandevistan, both of which provide huge boosts to your critical hits and damage while active.

The second path is the “unstoppable samurai” path: Berserk. When you pop this, you become a tanky, immovable object. You’ll often get short windows of pure invincibility, massive melee damage buffs, and you won’t lose stamina. The Biodyne Berserk is a top tier choice, as it not only boosts your damage but also heals you as you fight, making you a true juggernaut.

Cyberpunk 2077 Best Katana Build Cyberware

Once you’ve picked your Operating System, it’s time to fill out the rest of your slots. This is how you fine tune your Cyberpunk Katana Build into a truly legendary machine.

  • Skeleton: This is non-negotiable. You need Reinforced Tendons for the double jump. It’s essential for mobility, verticality, and setting up aerial attacks. Your second slot should be Dense Marrow for the flat out buff to your melee damage.
  • Frontal Cortex: The Axolotl (a Phantom Liberty drop) or the Newton Module is your key to victory. Both reduce your cyberware cooldowns every time you neutralize an enemy. With a fast swinging katana, you can clear a room and have your Sandevistan or Berserk ready to go again almost instantly.
  • Nervous System: Neofiber is a great defensive pick, giving you a passive buff to damage mitigation. For your second slot, the Adrenaline Converter gives you a burst of movement speed when you enter combat, helping you close that first gap.
  • Circulatory System: This is your survival slot. Biomonitor is a must have; it will automatically pop a health item when your health drops to a critical level, saving you from countless flatlines. Pair this with Adrenaline Booster to regain stamina for every melee kill, letting you keep swinging without stopping.

Cyberpunk Katana Build States

In Cyberpunk 2077, “States” are your core Attributes. For this build, we need to be very precise, as three different trees are all vital to our success. Forget about being a jack of all trades; you are a specialist.

Here is the priority for your Cyberpunk Katana Build attributes:

  1. Reflexes (Primary Goal: 20): This is your most important attribute, period. It governs your proficiency with Blades, unlocks all of your god tier mobility perks, and passively increases your Crit Chance. Every point here makes you faster, deadlier, and harder to hit. You will rush this to 20.
  2. Body (Secondary Goal: 15-20): You can’t kill if you’re dead. Body is your survival attribute. It gives you more health, more stamina, and most importantly, unlocks the Adrenaline Rush perk tree, which essentially gives you a “second health bar” in tough fights.
  3. Technical Ability (Secondary Goal: 15-20): This is the attribute that lets your chrome shine. Technical Ability increases your cyberware capacity, letting you slot in all that top tier gear. It also unlocks the all powerful “Edgerunner” perk, which lets you push your cyberware past its normal limits.

Your other attributes, Intelligence and Cool, should be left at their base level. You’re a samurai, not a netrunner or a stealthy assassin.

Cyberpunk 2077 Katana Build Starting States

When you first create your V, you’ll want to set yourself up for immediate success. To get your Cyberpunk Katana Build off the ground, distribute your starting points like this:

  • Reflexes: 3
  • Body: 3
  • Technical Ability: 1

This simple allocation does everything you need. Putting points in Reflexes and Body immediately unlocks the first tier of blade perks and survivability perks, so you can start leveling what matters from your very first kill. The single point in Tech gives you a head start on the cyberware journey.

Cyberpunk Katana Build Leveling

Leveling this build is all about grabbing the game changing perks that enable your mobility and lethality. Attributes unlock the doors, but Perks are the weapons waiting inside.

Reflexes Perks (Right Side Tree): This tree is your bread and butter, so you’ll beeline for these perks. The foundation of your mobility comes from Slippery and Dash, which replaces the old dodge and lets you build momentum. To handle ranged threats, you’ll grab Lead and Steel and Bullet Deflect, which eventually lets you send bullets right back at their shooter.

Your primary source of in-combat healing and stamina is the Finisher: Bladerunner perk; this lets you perform a finisher on a low health enemy, making you invulnerable during the animation and topping off your resources. The final piece of your mobility puzzle is Air Dash, which combines with your double jump to let you fly across the battlefield and attack from any angle.

cyberpunk 2077 Reflexes Perks

Body Perks (Center Tree): This tree is what keeps you from being a glass cannon. The main perk you want is Adrenaline Rush. When active, it gives you a big defensive buff that acts like a temporary second health bar. You’ll want to build on this with perks like Juggernaut and Pain to Gain, which make Adrenaline Rush last longer and even regenerate your health while it’s active.

Technical Ability Perks (Center Tree): This tree makes your chrome fueled build possible. You’ll focus on License to Chrome to unlock more cyberware capacity and get armor bonuses from your Skeleton cyberware. The ultimate perk here is Edgerunner. It lets you exceed your cyberware capacity limit at the cost of health, but it also gives you a chance to enter a “Fury” state when you kill an enemy, granting you massive damage and crit buffs. This is the key to a truly overpowered Cyberpunk Katana Build.
