Routine Survival Tips: How to Stay Alive
Before you jump into specific chapters, you need to master the basics. Routine does not explain its mechanics clearly, which leads to many early deaths.
Tip 1: Master the C.A.T Tool
Your Cosmonaut Assistance Tool (C.A.T) might look like a pistol, but do not treat it like a weapon. Its primary function is hacking doors by interfacing with terminals to open locked paths. You will also use it for its Flashlight and UV capabilities, specifically using the Ultraview Module to see in the dark and find hidden fingerprints. While you can technically stun robots, it drains your battery incredibly fast and doesn’t kill them, so only use the stun function as a desperate last resort.
Tip 2: Prioritize Stealth Over Combat
The robots in Routine are terrifyingly fast and can often kill you in just one or two hits. Since you cannot destroy them permanently, your best strategy is avoidance. Learn to listen to voices, if you hear heavy mechanical footsteps, stop moving immediately. Use the environment to your advantage by hiding in vents, under desks, and in dark corners, but remember to turn off your flashlight. Most rooms have multiple entrances, so try to loop around enemies rather than backing yourself into a dead end.
Tip 3: Conserve Your Batteries
Resource management is key. Your C.A.T tool relies on batteries for everything, the flashlight, the screen interface, and the stun function. Always be on the lookout to scavenge shelves, desks, and open lockers for blue battery packs. To conserve power, do not leave your flashlight on constantly, toggle it off whenever you are in lit areas.
Tip 4: Understand Randomized Codes
One of the most unique and challenging features of Routine is that keypad codes are randomized for every playthrough. You cannot simply look up a specific door code online.
