What Is ARC Raiders?
ARC Raiders is an online extraction shooter where teams of three players explore vast open environments filled with AI-controlled enemies and rival human players. You can find a lot of loot too. Your mission is to collect valuable supplies from the surface and make it back to safety before time runs out.
Each match can last up to 30 minutes and as the clock ticks down, extraction points begin to close. Eventually, some catastrophic event wipes out anyone who is still on the surface. An open ARC Raiders server slam runs from October 17 to 19 which gives players a free preview before launch. No codes or sign ups are required for this one. So I would say ARC Raiders playtest time strikes a fair balance.
Story and Setting
ARC Raiders story takes place 150 years in the future after Earth is devastated by mechanical invaders known as ARC machines. Humanity now lives underground and you play as a raider. A daring scavenger who braves the open world to gather whatever resources they need for survival.
Your base of operations is Speranza. It’s an underground city beneath the surface. Here you manage loadouts, trade with vendors, craft your equipment, and accept missions. While it isn’t a fully explorable hub like Destiny’s Tower, Speranza functions as your central menu for all progression and crafting activities.
What’s interesting is that ARC Raiders exists in the same universe as the Finals. However, the story take place about 80 years later with familiar brands appearing as subtle easter eggs for fans.
Gameplay and Mechanics
On the surface, ARC Raiders delivers intense third person combat and clever stealth mechanics. It’s all about grabbing loot and making it out alive. ARC Raiders lets you jump in solo or team up with two players. No matter what, you’ll be facing off against rival trios in the match. Pulling off a win means sticking together as a team. Staying alert keeps you one step ahead of the danger. Nailing your timing decides if you extract or get wiped.
ARC Raiders has four launch maps. Buried City, Spaceport, Dam Battlegrounds, and Blue Gate. Each ARC Raiders map offers distinct environments. From dense urban ruins to open industrial areas and mountain tunnels. A mysterious fifth map Stella Montis is also being teased for future updates.
ARC Raiders brings dynamic weather like fog and sandstorms to its world. Rain and nighttime settings make every mission feel alive and tough. Night raids come with stronger enemies but better loot. You’ll need to decide if the reward is worth the risk each time.
Your goal in ARC Raiders is to collect loot such as weapons or crafting materials and make it to safety. Extractions are risky since signaling one draws the attention of nearby teams. It causes some tense shootouts. You can also use Raider Hatches. They are one-time secret exits that require a Hatch key.
Progression and Crafting
Progression in ARC Raiders mainly revolves around XP and crafting.

Every ARC Raiders mission earns you XP, even if you don’t survive. Leveling up unlocks skill points for your character. You can use them to boost stamina or carry more gear. Completing vendor challenges in Speranza also throws in some extra XP. - Crafting & Workbenches:
Crafting in ARC Raiders is straight fire and super fun. You’ll unlock cool workbenches like the equipment bench over time. You can use stuff from raids to build gear at the weapons bench or tweak things at the med station. Embark Studios promises us it’s our tactics and skills that really matter not just the gear.
If you suffer a string of bad runs, your helpful in-game pet companion named Scrappy the Rooster provides basic supplies to get you back on your feet. You can also deploy with a free loadout, though it’s made up of the weakest gear.
Enemies and AI Behavior
In ARC Raiders, the ARC machines are your main enemies and they come in all sorts of deadly shapes and sizes. There are small bots that zip around and hit you with stun effects or fiery attacks that force you to act fast. Then there are large bots that have more aggressive moves. They charge at you with relentless fury. Turrets are a big danger in the world. They are locked in place, but dish out sniper fire that can pin you down if you’re not careful. You’ve also got spider-like enemies crawling into the mix. They can leap huge distances and use powerful weapons. For the ultimate challenge, boss encounters like the Queen demand tight teamwork to take down. It feels like epic raid battles. The AI is super reactive, so no two fights play out the same. Which turns every deployment into a wild unpredictable combat scenario.
Audio, Visuals, Performance
ARC Raiders is hands down one of the best looking games of this generation. With environments that pop like they’re alive thanks to wild and immersive weather shifts. The sound design is just as dope. Every footstep and gun reload has its own crisp sound. So you have to keep it quiet and stay sharp. Hearing what’s around you is as important as seeing it.
On PS5, ARC Raiders aims for a buttery 60 frames per second, rocking a dynamic 1600p resolution that might dip to 720p when the action gets nuts. The PS5 Pro version is gonna crank it up to 2160p which is even better. Early beta tests had some slight screen tearing, but hopefully developers have ironed that out for the big launch.
Development History and Future Plans
Back in 2021, ARC Raiders was first shown off as a free to play co-op PVE shooter. However, it’s since morphed into the slick PVPVE extraction shooter game we’re getting now. The game hit some delays, but that extra time has clearly paid off. It has shaped ARC Raiders into something super polished.
After launch, Embark Studios has got big plans with regular drops of new maps, weapons, fresh ARC machine types to keep things spicy. They’re also throwing in Expedition Projects. The optional 8-week challenges where you can reset your progress for cool permanent account rewards. There are going to be paid cosmetics and battle passes too.
Is ARC Raiders Worth It?
ARC Raiders is shaping up to be a standout extraction shooter with a unique sci-fi setting.
