Protect Town Hall at All Cost
Town Hall in Monsters Are Coming Rock & Road is your life. If your hero dies, it’s fine. You just respawn. But if your Town Hall dies, that’s it. It’s game over for you.
Your entire job early on is to keep your Town Hall safe. That means you must clear obstacles in front of it. Trees, rocks, whatever you encounter. If it gets stuck, monsters pile up fast and they will absolutely demolish the whole thing.
This also means you have to resist the urge to chase that one monster or that shiny gold drop. If you leave it unguarded, enemies will go straight for your Town Hall. You’re the last line of defense. So stay close and protect it.
Your hero can die. That’s for sure. If you need to stall a monster to buy your towers a few extra seconds, do it. You’ll come back. Just be careful. Every time you die, you drop a gravestone that takes up valuable space in your layout. So use the strategy wisely.

Build Smartly, Not Widely
Here’s the mechanical trick you have to understand. The city is always moving south. It’s obvious. This should change everything about how you build.
If you build your city horizontally, you will ram into way more obstacles than if you build it vertically. Keep your buildings tight around the Town Hall. A compact city stays agile and is way easier to protect.
I’d highly recommend as you build, plan ahead. You’ll eventually get a tower that boosts the damage of surrounding towers by +50%. You want to leave a central space for it. If you place this tower well, you can boost nine damage towers instead of just three or four.

What Resources Do in Monsters Are Coming Rock & Road
Your city runs on resources and you need to be constantly feeding it. Smack every tree and every rock. They aren’t just in your way. They’re helping you to get you what you need.
- Rocks heal your Town Hall.
- Trees boost your towers’ fire rate.
- Both drop gold or XP.
This is your resource engine. Feed it wood steadily and it ramps up your fire rate. Rocks act like auto heal buffers.
When you gather, don’t just hit one thing at a time. Position yourself in the middle so that you can hit many things at once.
And remember, resources do nothing until you bring them back to the Town Hall. Nothing counts until then. This is how you level up and get to add new buildings.
By killing enemies and gathering rocks, you can also get the blue gems needed for city upgrades.

Upgrades & Strategies
- You should be aggressive in this game if you want to survive. When you want to upgrade your city, you’d have to focus first on tower damage and tower attack speed. Killing enemies more quickly means you need less health and fewer fortifications.
- You’re gonna get way more power from a tower mix than what you’d get from stacking cannons. A freeze tower next to a fire tower deals much more damage.
- If your tower has a chance to drop gold, you’re better off adding it to the south of the city. That’s because if it kills an enemy and leaves gold behind, you would have time to get that gold.
- Ice Towers: Do the opposite this time. Put them on the north or the sides . As enemies approach from the north, they get slowed down and will tend to fall behind your city as you keep moving south. If you put them on the south, you’ll slow enemies down right as you’re ramming into them .
- Knockback Towers: This is pretty much what the name suggests. Place these on the sides or top of your city to push enemies back as they try to reach you.
- Exploding Enemies: You’ll see those big enemies that glow before they blow up. Focus on them first. Try to kill them in a pack of other enemies and their explosion will clear a whole bunch for you.
If one of those big exploding enemies gets near your base, you must kill it immediately. If they explode on your base, they can deal a lot of damage. You don’t want that. - Arena Circles: When you’re doing an arena challenge, you can actually go out of the circle for a few seconds. You’ll see a yellow timer pop up that seems to last about 8 or 9 seconds.
It’s not ideal, but stepping out for a moment to dodge and then coming back is a difference maker in my opinion. Those few extra seconds may save your life. - Your Axe: When you want to upgrade your axe, focus more on damage than attack speed. It’s very easy to kite enemies. You attack, move back, attack. This way you don’t need high attack speed. You just need to hit hard and move out of the way.
It’s a chaotic ride, but you’re gonna enjoy it. Focus on your Town Hall. Build smart. Watch out for the resources. You’ll stay alive longer and level up in no time.
